The main originators of non-biological turbidity are proteins and polyphenols or their precursors (particles from which turbidity gradually forms due to external conditions).
The colloidal stabilization of beer is a process by which the risk of the early formation of turbidity is eliminated.

If the beer is not stabilized, it will only last a few weeks. However, today’s retailers require beer to remain clear without becoming turbid for months.

Stabilization filtration equipment (FKS 100ST – FKS 600ST) ensures the colloidal shelf-life of beer while retaining its characteristic properties (color, lightness and taste, bitterness or sweetness).

Benefits:

  • Colloidal stabilization significantly increases the commercial shelf-life of the beer. Without it, it is virtually impossible for bottled beer to have a shelf-life longer than 6 to 8 weeks
  • Stabilization filters are fitted with vertical filter elements – candles of the same design as the kieselguhr filters, which guarantee high quality and reliability of filtration. However, depending on the parameters of the stabilizing means, smaller slits are sometimes required when winding the candle, which is taken into account in their design requirements
  • FKS ST stabilization filters are especially suitable for larger breweries, where they can repeatedly use regenerable polyamide sorbents (PVPP – e.g. Polyclar, Divergan). In the case, the stabilizing filters are complemented with a regeneration station for the stabilization agents, where the stabilization agents are cleaned by rinsing with regeneration solutions (NaOH, HNO3, water). This improves the return on investment of the stabilization filter.

  • Description of the equipment

    The main parts of the stabilizer filter are:

    • filter body
    • dosing equipment
    • retention tank
    • connecting pipe with the main pump and armature
    • electrical equipment with control panel
    • measuring and regulation system
    • regeneration station (for regeneration of used stabilizers)
    • DESA catch filter
  • Automated functions

    FKS ST stabilization equipment is equipped with automated control and regulation functions as standard:

    • filter flow and dosing pump;
    • control of the pressure ratios in the filter (input/output, differential pressure);
    • Heating the stabilizer suspension (PVPP) prior to the start of the filter cycle;
    • switching the CIRCULATION - FILTRATION phases (depending on the primary filter phases);
    • concentration of chemical solutions (for regeneration);
    • temperature of chemical solutions and rinsing water.

    Do you require a higher degree of automation? We can arrange it for you at your request.

  • Technical data

    The parameters of the stabilization filter line are adapted based on the primary filtration using the FKS-type filters. A variant with one PVPP regeneration cycle is usually chosen for 2 primary filtration cycles.

    In order to design an optimal solution for you, we need to know your requirements for cycle capacity (hl) and the amount of PVPP needed for continuous dosing (g/hl).
